GRAND RONDE RIVER White Water Rafting Trips and River Information |
|
Guided White Water Rafting Trips River Description / Natural History |
The Grande Ronde between Minam and Troy is a rugged, steep walled canyon with open grasslands interspersed with evergreen forests. Most visitors obtain access to this very remote area by non-motorized watercraft. Inflatable rafts, drift boats, kayaks and canoes (advanced canoe skills in a boat designed for whitewater are recommended) are the craft of choice. Motorized watercraft and equipment are not allowed in the national forest from Sheep Creek to the state line. All boaters must obtain a permit prior to floating the river. Permits are free and self issued at the put in or from the BLM. Required equipment for all boaters includes a self-contained portable toilet, a metal fire pan with at least 2" sides (no traditional rock rings please!) and coast guard approved life jackets (life jackets must be available for all people and always worn by children 12 and under while floating). Please practice the outdoor principles of "Leave No Trace" style camping. · Plan Ahead and Prepare - Plan your trip to avoid high use weekends. Launch on Sunday - Wednesday if possible. |
